France

So, mom is back from France.  You know how I can tell?  Cause now, I have to eat my veggies again and follow the rules.  Dad and I had a great time though!  Not as good as mom though.  She had a fabulous time, pretty much eating her way through the country.  She would also like to set the record straight- French people are not rude.  They were amazingly nice and helpful every step of the way.  Mom was pleasantly surprised!  So here is a brief summary of mom's trip.

She and Nana landed on Thursday morning and met her friend Heidi at the subway and then proceeded to haul their 80 pounds (each!) of luggage up and down the steps, onto and off of the subway for the next hour.  It was very hard work but it enabled them to eat lots later.  They got to the hotel, dropped stuff off and headed out to their pastry class.  They learned how to make and eat chocolate souffle, creme brulee, strawberry almond tarts, madelines, cherry clouflutis (sp?).  It was a great way to start the trip.  Since it stays light until 11 PM, they then headed out to see the Sacre Ceour and wander a bit.  Finally hit the sheets about 11:30.

Friday, they ran all over Paris and saw the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Louvre and the Arc de Triomphe and on top of all that, took a river taxi and ate lots of pastries.  Mom and Nana discovered macarons which are nothing like macaroons here.  Wow- little pieces of heaven on earth!  Friday night, they took the train back to Vannes where Heidi lives.

Spent Saturday exploring Vannes and going to the farmers market and then out to a creperie for dinner.

Sunday, went for a long walk through the French country side and the ocean.  Found another fabulous creperie for lunch

Monday, went to Mont St. Michel which is an HUGE, intimidating cathedral and town built on a tiny island in the 1300's.  Definitely a must see if you ever are in France.

Tuesday, went to see the megalithes at Carnac in the morning.  These are huge stones that date back 6000 years and no one is sure how they got there or what they mean.  In the afternoon, they went to Rochefort en Terre, a beautiful little town dating back to the 1300's.

Wednesday was a relax and pack kind of day and then head back to Paris to catch the plane on Thursday.

It was an amazing trip and we are so thankful to Heidi for everything she did for us!
Mom and Nana on their beach walk.  That is the Atlantic ocean back there.

This is Mont St. Michel.  Pictures just don't do it justice.  This place was amazing.

Heidi's town of Vannes.  This was market day.  The houses really do lean like that but no seems to worry that they will fall over!

You all know what this is!
