Bike Races and Nana D

Greetings from cold, snowy Tucson.  Again.  We woke up to a light dusting of snow on the ground this morning and it was very pretty BUT, we are now officially tired of "winter" and are ready for triple digits.  Really.

Anyhoo.  We had a quiet week and a nice looong weekend.  Dad had a bike race up in Las Vegas this weekend so he headed out on Thursday morning for that and Nana D came into town on Thursday to keep me and mom company for the weekend.  We had a much better time here than dad did in Vegas.  He had his time trial on Friday and although he did better than last year, it was extremely windy and he almost got blown off his bike 3 different times.  Saturday wasn't much better for him because it was windy, rainy, sleeting and 45 degrees and he had a 70 mile race in front of him.  He finished but it wasn't pretty.  At that point, I don't think he really cared- he just wanted to be warm.  We are pretty sure he had help prying his frozen fingers off the handle bars of his bike!

Things were much better for the girls back here in Tucson.  After we picked Nana up at the airport, we went out to lunch and then to the newly remodeled library that just re-opened.  We spent the rest of the day relaxing and enjoying the sun.

On Friday, we headed out to the Desert Museum for another really nice day with lots of sunshine.

(This is me digging for dinosaur fossils and channeling Mr. Walker.  He sticks his tongue out when he is concentrating too- but probably not to this degree).

On Saturday, mom had to go into work for a bit and then did some grocery shopping so Nana and walked down to the French bakery and got yummy pastries for us to enjoy after lunch.  Then we all headed to Costco because it isn't a trip with Nana until some shopping happens.  We all just love Costco.
After hitting the gelato shop for the second time in the weekend, we headed home, watched a movie and went to bed.  It was kind of an amazing sleep weekend because we all got at least 9 1/2 hours of sleep Thursday and Friday night.  We all looked like spring chickens, we were so rested!
Sunday brought our marathon sleeping to an end because we had to get Nana to the airport by 8 but we had the oh-so-enjoyable snow to look at on the drive.
The rest of the day was cloudy, cold, windy and rainy so we stayed inside and made meringues.  I have been bugging mom to make these from my cookbook because I like the colors so much.  Ours weren't quite as pretty as the picture in the book but once we drizzled them with chocolate, they were pretty darn tasty.

After a toasty dinner of grilled cheese and tomato soup, we were off to an early bed- hoping to regain some our rested-ness for the week ahead.  See you next Sunday!
