Well, we've been waiting and waiting for summer to get here and it finally has! We have been in the upper 80's and low 90's for the past week and it has been fabulous!
We had another good week here. Both of dad's bosses were out of town so he got home at a decent hour all week. That worked out really well for us because Tuesday was the longest day of the year so we ate a quick dinner and headed out for a short hike, just because we could! It was so nice! We hiked to the top of the hill near our house that has great views of the rockies.
The rest of the week was pretty quiet. On Saturday, I had my first swim lesson here. I was the oldest and tallest of the group and the best swimmer but the teacher still thought I needed to stay where I was. It will be good for my ego to be the "good one" in class even if it's because I'm bigger.
On Sunday, we headed out for a really great adventure. We decided to drive up to Mt. Evans. It is the highest paved road in North America and it was a little treacherous. Mom drove up and was kind of white knuckling it all the way and kept saying things that I can't repeat here whenever she looked down. It was kind a steep drop off on one side and kind of a narrow road. We made it though! Our first stop was Summit Lake- a beautiful glacier lake.
We spent some time walking the trails around the lake and as you can see from the ice on the lake, it was still pretty cold up here. Once we decided it was time to get warm, we drove the rest of the way up to the top. It was kind of amazing up there with views as far as you can see in every direction. The mountains just go on and on and on. And there was snow! It wasn't very good snow because it was pretty hard packed but still!
We even saw a mama mountain goat and her two kids. They were the cutest thing ever and obviously making there mom a little crazy and they wandered off and got into trouble.
Once we had enough of Arctic Tundra, we drove back down to Echo lake and did some hiking around there and took in more of the beautiful scenery.
It was just a fabulous day all around!
Hope everyone has a great week!
