Happy 2011!

This has been a much quieter week and the Goedel house feels rested and ready to take on 2011.  Much better than last year at this time when we were all grumpy and unknowingly headed for 3 straight months of sickies.  It is going to be a good year!
Nana and Mr. Walker left Sunday as most of you know, so it was back to the grind for me and mom.  We dragged ourselves out of bed Monday morning at 4:45 AM (mom) and 5:30 AM (me) and got our rear ends out the door while dad waved at us from the door in his PJs.  Deep sigh.  Thankfully, it was a very quiet week at  work for mom and I needed the naps at school after 9 days without one.
On Tuesday night, dad went to his annual Boys Night Poker Party up at Joe's cabin in the mountains.  (He won a can of Spam and 2 cans of beer- this is high stakes stuff here!)  Since mom was still tired of cooking, we went and got my hair cut and then headed to the Grilled Cheese place for dinner.  I threw her for a loop by almost deciding on pizza for dinner but changed my mind at the last minute.  Whew, that was a close one!
Mom took Thursday off of work but I still had to go to school.  It ended up being a very wet, very cold, rainy day with a high of 45 degrees.  Mom put her time to good use by cleaning and purging my room of all my old clothes and toys etc.  We had started the process on Sunday with mom talking to me about other kids needing toys and me having so many blah, blah, blah.  At first, I was all on board with it and technically, it sounded like a great idea.  But, when it came to the reality of the situation, I didn't want to part with anything and it ended up being very frustrating for both of us.  Sooooo, that is really why mom took Thursday off and I ended up in school.  My room looks much nicer now and mom unloaded a huge amount of stuff at Goodwill.  The house feels 10 pounds lighter!
Friday was New Year's Eve and believe it or not, we actually had plans!  Our camping friends invited us over for dinner as long as we promised to leave by 9 PM.  That was the perfect invite for us because mom and dad wanted to be in bed by 9:30.  Madeline and I played like crazy women as usual and the grown ups enjoyed a delicious lasagna dinner and rang in the New Year from somewhere east of New York.
New Year's Day was very relaxing- mom went for a really long run at Sabino Canyon, dad went for a nice long bike ride and I putzed around the house.  We spent most of the day putting away all of our Christmas stuff and getting the house back in order.  We were all a little sad to see everything go this year.  That night, we headed to our church with Grandpa Vern with dinner for a group of homeless veterans that the church sponsors every year.  I didn't eat any food but had a great time talking to everyone.
On Sunday, it was finally warm enough to head outside.  (For those of you living in the mid west, we do realize that 45 degrees is probably summer weather for you but here in Tucson, we don't have enough clothes in our closet to keep us warm at that temperature, so we huddle inside until it is above 60!)  Mom and I headed out for a beautiful hike at Ventana Canyon.  We had such a good time.  We hiked about 2 miles and spent a lot of time "billy goating" over big rocks, listening for birds and watching for animal tracks.  We think we saw a mountain lion track but mom isn't known for her outdoor skills, so it may have been a big dog!  We ended up walking a little faster after that, for whatever reason....

We rounded out our holiday but having cocktail hour out by the fire pit and then in bed by 6:45 (me).  Mom and dad still have one more day off but then it back to usual for us all on Tuesday.
Hope everyone has a healthy, joyful New Year!
