Deja Vu All Over Again

March 2009, right wrist

October 2006, left elbow

It was a good weekend for 2/3 of our house.  You can probably guess from the above picture which of us did not have a great weekend!

It started out as our usual weekend with a nice, quiet Friday night- early to bed.  Dad had the first of his 3 races for the weekend- did pretty well and finished in the top 1/3.

On Saturday, mom and I went for a run while dad headed out for his second race.  After our run, we drove down to Sierra Vista (about 1.5 hours from here) to help my cousin Ashley celebrate her 4th birthday.  The very first thing I noticed driving up was the HUGE jumping castle.  I was very excited about that and couldn't wait to jump with everyone.  To get to the jumping castle though, we had to walk through the toy room.  That stopped me dead in my tracks and I forgot all about the other kids and the jumping castle.  So while everyone else was outside enjoying the day and getting some exercise, I was inside all by my self playing with all the toys.  It was so cool to not have to share with anyone.  Mom is starting to think she is raising quite the loner kid.  I did tear myself away long enough to watch Ashley open some presents and eat some of the deeelicious cake!
At about 2:30, mom sees she has a message on her phone.  She checks it and hears: "Hi, honey.  It's me.  I had a little accident at the race today and I'm going to the emergency room- I think I broke something.  But don't worry, I'm OK!"  Great.  Mom was much less panicked this time and figured dad was a big boy and could take care of himself so we took our sweet time coming home.  (She is getting a little heartless in her old age).
Because dad wasn't home yet, she dragged me to church which was quite the adventure.  She told me I had to be quiet and sit still.  I got it about 50% right most of the time.  I could sit but not be quiet or be quiet and not sit.  Thankfully, we sat next to the most patient woman ever who told mom that God loves happy children and he is smiling right now watching me.  Mom wishes she could be God sometimes!
We get home from church and dad is finally home.  Turns out in addition to some nasty road rash, he has a navicular (scaphoid) fracture.  That is the small bone at the base of your thumb and possibly a distal radius fracture.  Most navicular fractures require surgery to heal so we will see what the doctor says next week.  On the plus side, dad feels much better after this injury then he did after his elbow fracture!  I recall dad saying more than once that he won't mountain bike because people get hurt to much.  He's going to have to re-think that theory!  It sure will be nice to have dad around more often though.
On Sunday, Papa Vern and Grandma Sue came over and we had a picnic at the park and played on the playground.  Papa kept up with me pretty good but I always outlast everyone anyway.
Mom spent the day getting the yard back in shape and was happy to see everything made it through our freezing winter!  Dad spent the day looking longingly at his beloved bike.
Hope you all have a fabulous week and Ashley- have a great birthday!
This is my cousin Jerrod.  So I guess I did play with someone else for awhile.
This is the cake Ashley's mom made for her.  Sharon is more mom than my mom will ever be!  Very impressive Sharon!

Here is the birthday girl and her dad enjoying the day.
