Sleeping is for pansies!

We actually have something to write about this weekend!
Dad had his first bike race of the season and his first race as a category 4 rider. (He was a 5 last year, so he gets lots of new, tougher competition now.) He drove up Friday morning to ride in the time trial with his new time trial bike. It didn't make him quite as fast as he thought it would but he didn't do bad. Mom and I left around noon to drive up. I think mom planned that so I would sleep on the way up. I obliged her and crashed about 10 minutes into the ride and didn't wake up until we pulled into the hotel. "Sweeeet" mom was thinking (until I wouldn't go to bed that night) Anyway, our hotel was very cool. It had a big atrium with a huge pond and huge Koi fish swimming everywhere. The nice people at the front desk gave me all kinds of food to give to the fish. We also had a glass elevator that was great fun. I got that figured out pretty quick. Mom and dad liked the hotel because it had a free happy hour every night and they made sure to take full advantage of that.
Friday night, I just didn't feel like sleeping. Mom and dad had their happy hour and now it was mine. I finally went down about 9:30 and slept until a really late 5 AM. That was when dad had to leave for part 2 of his bike race. Mom and I spent the morning shopping at the most ridculous shopping center ever. It is the fancy mall in Scottsdale and at first mom was a little intimidated by all the hoity-toity people there. (I wasn't intimidated though because I was wearing my Ralph Lauren shoes. No one had to know they were from Ross and my sweats were from Target) Anyway, we got over our feeling of inadequacy when mom saw the prices on the stuff. She realized how much smarter she was than all those people. Who would really pay $1700.00 (yes, 1700) for a mini skirt or $100.00 for a cotten romper for a 2 year old??!! Crazy people!
While we were busy annoying the wealthy people, dad was crashing on his bike. He is just fine, a little sore but none the worse off. There was a big crash right in front of him and he rolled over another rider and landed splat on his left side. He did manage to finish 34th after his first official race crash. After he dragged himself home, we all went to the zoo and it was soooo fun. I got to run through tunnels, go down slides, watch the Wallaby's and yell at them to JUMP! (which they never did), play on a big tractor and go into the petting zoo with all the goats and chase them around for awhile. I got put back in my stroller because I think mom and dad were I hoping I would go to sleep. Who can sleep at the Zoo??!! I did sleep for about 10 minutes on the car ride back to the hotel. All I really need is a 10 minute cat nap in the car to keep me going to rest of the day and the night- much to mom and dad's dismay. We got back and went to an early dinner because we absolutely couldn't miss happy hour today. Mom and dad get kind of worn out when I don't sleep. I made it until 9:30 again on Saturday night- later than mom!
On Sunday, we went out to watch dad in the criterion part of his race. It was a 10 lap, 30 minute race. He almost crashed again but was able to avoid it this time. Mom and I watched and cheered him with great enthusiasm until I spied the jumping castle at about lap 1.5. Fortunately for mom, she could see the race and watch me at the same time. Dad finished mid-pack, or so mom tells me. We headed home after the race and mom put me to bed at 7!! Can you believe it? 7??!! It was good to be back in my own bed.

This picture isn't of me but of the tiger in the tree. He made 3 huge jumps all the way to the top of this huge tree. We kept waiting for him to jump out of the enclosure
